The 2019 Rugby World Cup will be the ninth Rugby World Cup and will be held in Japan from September 20th to November 2nd. This will be the first time the game is held in Asia and outside the traditional center of the Rugby Union. Hong Kong and Singapore have expressed interest in organizing some competitions and were included in the JRFU's successful application for World Rugby (when bidding for the International Rugby Board or IRB), but not in the fourteenth organizer Japan Rugby World Cup 2019 Live Streaming announced on November 5, 2019. The first game of the 2019 Rugby World Cup will be held at the Ajinomoto Stadium in Chōfu, Tokyo, and the final will be held at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. These venue missions were announced in September 2015, when the Japanese Organizing Committee revised the game plan and was accepted by the World Football Team. The National Olympic Stadium, which was being rebuilt for the 2020 Summer Olympics, was originally the core of the Japan Rugby World Cup bid, but the revision of the Olympic Stadium plan required changes in the World Cup venue.

Joe Schmidt's men travelled to the world number one side looking to avoid back-to-back defeats for the first time since their tour of South Africa in 2016.
