Training Classes
We currently offer different levels of obedience training for dogs of all shapes and sizes. Our Agility classes will be starting in the Spring of 2010 and we hope to offer conformation handling classes in the near future.
At Runamuck we believe all dogs should complete some level of obedience training outside the home whether it be with us or someone else. The primary goal of the level one class is to get your dog used to being outside the home in different surroundings so they feel comfortable wherever you are with them. The training is not just to teach your dog how to "Sit" or "Stay" but to teach the handler how to communicate with his/her dog.
Dogs are pack animals by nature and you as their owner need to show your canine friend that your are the leader of the pack, if you can not do this they will show you that they are the leader. Help them understand where they belong in your pack because there can only be one leader. Remember most dogs want rules as much as they need them, just like children they need direction as well as affection.
Open your dogs mind and give them some physical activity at the same time. Whether you just want to have a good time with your dog or you want to compete in AKC agility trials. For those with high energy level dogs agility exercises both mind and body. It is a great way for you and your dog to spend some time together while getting a workout.
Requirements prior to Level one agility: It is highly recommended that you and your dog have successfully completed at least Level One Obedience class (more is better) prior to starting agility. This is because many of the commands i.e.. Sit, Stay, Down, Come, are used and are expanded upon. However if your dog has not completed an Obedience class they may come but must come to you "The Handler" when called as there is off leash work and all activities are outside.
Lure Coursing is a performance sport where dogs run in heats up to three at a time chasing an artificial rabbit better known as a plastic bag attached to a line around a preset course. In an actual trial they are judged on a number of factors including Speed, Agility, and Endurance.

If your dog likes to run and more importantly enjoys the chase this may be for you. Dogs typically eligible to race are: limited to Sighthounds.
AKC Stands for American Kennel Club
ASFA Stands for American Sighthound Field Association
Although these may be AKC and ASFA accepted breeds for racing we do allow all who are over one year of age (for developmental reasons) and are physically sound on race day to run for fun if so desired. To qualify to run with other dogs (up to three at a time) your dog must first have a qualifying run alone.
